ACHIEVEMENTS OF PUNJAB POLICE BASKETBALL TEAM 2000 onwards

Basketball is a five-a-side ball game invented by Dr. James Naismith of the USA in 1891 The earliest evidence of basketball game may be found in ancient Central and South American civilizations, dating back to the seventh century BC. The game was known as "Poktapok" played using only the hips, thighs and knees. Encyclopedia of Athletics (1818) indicates a game played in Florida in which the players attempted to throw the ball into a basket attached to the top of a pole. However, the credit for the invention of the game as played today must go to the Canada-born Dr. James Naismith. Naismith formulated his first rules in December 1891. Basketball was included in the Olympics for the first time at the Berlin Games in 1936.
